Revolutionizing Music: The Type V Travel Electric Guitar

Vladimir Shorin's Award-Winning Design Marries Ergonomics and Aesthetics

Introducing the Type V Travel Electric Guitar, a unique creation by designer Vladimir Shorin. This innovative design, inspired by the freedom of music and the sleekness of yachts and jets, has been recognized with a prestigious Silver A' Musical Instruments Design Award in 2022.

The Type V stands out in the realm of musical instruments with its lightweight and ergonomic design. Its unique body shape allows for comfortable play in various positions, be it standing, seated, or even leaning back on a sofa. This versatility is coupled with a sonic delivery that is based on careful wood and pickup selection, as well as structural features, providing long sustain and clear tones. The extended range of the guitar offers a great playing experience across different styles.

Shorin's design process began with concept sketches on blank paper, followed by full-scale drawings, CAD drawings, and prototyping from extruded polystyrene foam and MDF. The final product was fabricated with a CNC machine and manually painted, polished, and assembled. The result is a guitar with a height of 815mm, a width of 280mm, and a depth of 45mm, weighing just 2.49kg. The guitar features a Sapeli solid body, a Maple/Sapeli 5 piece neck, an ebony fretboard, stainless steel fanned frets, a Fokin Uppercut bridge pickup, and a Nova headless fixed bridge/headpiece.

The design of the Type V is based on the essence of music: emotional freedom, the never-ending flow, and the energy of a stream. Its dynamic shapes meet a minimalistic approach, with one pickup, one volume knob, black-colored hardware and body, and a black ebony fretboard. This results in a futuristic, stealth-like appearance that is both expressive and elegant. The guitar is well balanced and provides easy access to the top frets, making it a versatile instrument for various musical styles.

The project, which started in the Fall of 2018 and was completed in the Summer of 2019, was developed in Moscow, Russia. Shorin faced the challenge of achieving a balance between an attractive futuristic shape and the functional characteristics of musical instruments. The positive feedback from fellow musicians indicates that he has succeeded in this endeavor.

The Type V Travel Electric Guitar is a testament to the power of design and innovation in the world of music. It not only pushes the boundaries of what a guitar can be but also provides musicians with a tool that is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. As Shorin's design continues to receive recognition and accolades, it is clear that the future of musical instruments is bright and full of possibilities.
